Focusing on tactics without having an overall Strategy is DANGEROUS
Why can’t you find the “right” people to help you? Are they not getting what you are asking them to do?
You’re trying to juggle your company, your family, maybe 20 minutes to exercise when everyone is asleep...if you’re lucky.
Don’t people realize all the sacrifices you’ve made?
You are not alone, although it might feel that way. The fact is that most people really don’t understand you. Is that accurate?
They DO NOT understand how to run a company. All the decisions come back to you, and they all seem to dump their problems on your desk. It’s lonely to have to make every single decision, isn’t it? Plus, deep down it makes you extremely nervous because you have finally built something, and you are worried that it could all go away if you don’t find the right people or have them get their act together, right?
And if we are both very real right now, you don't want to admit it out loud that you are scared. You are scared that it is going to all break and/or stop. But if you do say something, you will panic, your team will panic, it will spread, and you're done.
Did that hit home?
You know you need help, but you're tired of spending thousands of dollars on training with big promises but no delivery or cookie cutter solutions given by coaches who don’t really understand you or your business.
You wish you had someone that actually listens, knows and gets you, and is not going to take over but be an actual partner. You are wanting someone that can just fix things so you can keep running your business like you envision.

I got a few more questions, is that okay with you?
You are not alone although it might feel that way.
Did people early on think you were crazy to start this? Maybe you had a good job offer after college, but you had an idea. Something that was nagging at you and you just had to go after it.
Now that you are having success, it’s like people feel entitled to participate in your success or get a job?
Is your team constantly disagreeing with each other? Maybe not outright rumbling, but every meeting there is arguing or after meetings people are constantly wanting to talk to you one-on-one about what he said/she said, and you are tired of it. Act like adults and fix it, right?
Then when you explain your vision and the pressure comes to perform, people stop performing or they quit on you. Now what are you supposed to do? You just invested time and money into them and now you have to do it all over again but oh wait, you have to find them, interview them, and hope it works out.
You do not have time for this because you have something you are building. You want and need good people to step up, own their job, and lead the business to where you know it is supposed to be, right?
Can I give you some constructive feedback?
It’s not clear to me if your team has the skills they need to do their jobs because they are so highly dependent on you to do their job. It seems like they wait for your direction, but also might not completely understand what they are supposed to do.
Could be because of how fast things are moving, maybe they don’t have enough support, don’t have the right tools to do the job, there might be conflict within the team, they have been burned in the past for leading out on projects (by you or a previous boss), if they step out of bounds they think they could lose their job and that would massively impact their personal life.
There is a path forward and that would be to look at both the way things are done within the team, and the individual skill sets of your team members.

Since I was a little kid, I've been obsessed with understanding what people think about and the "why" behind their decisions. Growing up with a dad who started his own Leadership Development company, our dinner conversations were anything but typical. When asked about his work, my dad would share leadership challenges, coaching insights, and stories about his clients. He would also ask us about our day and the tasks we needed to complete around the house. It was a unique childhood experience that sparked my interest in strategy, business dynamics, leadership, development, and coaching.
Even as a kid my dad provided us with a podium to practice impromptu speeches and coached us on our delivery. This early exposure to public speaking and coaching had a profound impact on me.
For the next decade, I had the privilege of working as both an internal employee and an external consultant with Deloitte Consulting, one of the world's most prestigious management consulting firms. During my time there, I coached and guided leaders through some of the most challenging business problems. I even had the opportunity to teach leaders and facilitate executive team strategy sessions for Fortune 100 companies at Deloitte University, the premier leadership development location worldwide. Additionally, I worked with portfolio companies within the private equity space.
While in college, I studied English with the intention of becoming a high school teacher and baseball coach. However, during my pursuit of a Master's in Education, I found myself building a teaching program for the College of Education. I also worked with the entrepreneurship department, connecting with local entrepreneurs and advising the Dean of the College of Business on development strategies.
As I helped my dad expand his business, I realized that I was living the life of a consultant, managing multiple clients and mentoring business students while going to school full-time and supporting my wife as she pursued her own Master's degree. Recognizing the consultant's path as my calling, I switched my focus and was offered a full scholarship for an MBA program by the Dean.
Throughout my career, I've had the honor of coaching and influencing hundreds of leaders around the world. My frameworks and programs have impacted tens of thousands of people, providing them with greater clarity around strategy, a deep understanding of the people impact of business decisions, enhanced business operations, and the development of leaders who take ownership of their work and effectively lead teams.
However, the most important aspect of my life is my family. They are my number one priority, and it is because of them that I invest so much energy in helping my clients live their fullest lives. I want to be an example to those I work with, showing them that it is possible to live life to the fullest. My wife and I are blessed with four children, and we reside in Dallas, Texas. In my free time, you'll often find me obsessing over baseball or backpacking through the mountains, and seeking new adventures.
